Digital Literacy
Digital Literacy
It is an awareness, confidence and ability to operate general technology that is used in everyday life. This includes computers, tablets, mobile phones, internet browsers, common software such as word processors, simple spreadsheets.
I believe it is relevant because it is a life skill that is a commonplace requirement and schools are about preparing students for their future lives outside of school.

Hi Greg,
I agree. We can not longer pretend or be ignorant to technology. While we do not need to know how every thing works, we need an awareness of it and our reliance on technology. Few people are able to live 'off the grid'.
Digital literacy is being a life skill but also the ability and skill to recognise acceptable behaviour and recognise valid information and information sources (Roblyer & Doering, 2014). I think this line is becoming blurred for some school students.
Students' ability to use mobile technology ease and without concern is reflective of the digital environment we live in. However, from my own observations at school and generally speaking, are students' ability to use word processors and spreadsheets effectively decreasing? Has our focus moved more to mobile technology, apps and multi-media been as the expense of these life skills; correctly formatting and using word processor and spreadsheets with simple formulas?
It would be interesting to hear your thoughts and observations.
Cheers.
Rochelle
